Photoshop Blog Post 3

cheetah

What is it?

This ad is for Charal, a meat company.  The ad is meant to show how fresh their meat is, that it is a cheetah in the freezer hunting right there.  I think the ad is funny and effective because it sticks out to the viewer.

What program?

I think the program used to create this was Photoshop.  I think they used the file place embedded and did a mask of the jacket on the cheetah.  I think they used the puppet warp tool to make sure the jacket moved exactly along the back and shape of the cheetah.  They also used drop shadows under the feet of the cheetah.

Design elements?

I can see a contrast in the texture of the cheetah’s fur and the smoothness of the jacket.  The whole thing is very balanced because the cheetah is in the center, along with the slogan and the meat picture.

justin

What is it?

This ad I found shows the before and after Photoshop for this ad.  As you can see, it is an ad for underwear, so they wanted to show that their underwear was as sexy as Justin Bieber.  I think that the ad did what it was supposed to do for sure, but at the cost of changing how Justin’s body actually looks.

What program?

I think the program used to create this was Photoshop.  I think they used the liquify filter to accomplish everything they did.  They changed his entire body shape.  I think they also messed with gradients and the burn tool to get shadows.  I think they also made the contrast way higher to emphasize the shadows and his tattoos.

Design elements?

The ad is very balanced, with everything very central.  The texture is harsh because of the high contrast.

2 page spread: Photoshop project

Babies on the Brain InDesign

For this activity, we used our Photoshop projects from the last unit.  We found the articles we used, and we made them into a 2 page spread and included the actual article.  I decided to keep my original image on the left side, and put the article on the right side.  Using a paragraph font, I did the header.  Using a different paragraph font, I did the article words.  In the middle, I put in two photos that went along with my story.  I also added in some of the aspects from the photoshop project itself, using the cut outs of the baby stroller, bottle, and pacifier!  Overall, I am happy with the way it turned out.

Color Brochure

Color Brochure

For this, I played with the idea of a master page to make large publications easier.  On the master page of this brochure, I added a page number to all 32 pages, as well as an image of a crayon on the side.  I also added the color on the top and the text box so that they would all be in the exact same place on each slide.  To edit the master pages once I had made them, I would just do option and click so that I could change “red” to “pink” and so on.  I changed all of the colors and captions.  On the opposite pages, I placed the pictures, and they were already the exact size I wanted them to be, so I just made sure to center them on the pages.  For the cover, I duplicated the crayons and made the letters fall onto the crayons.  For the back page, I added a website and a phone number to call for further information!

Master Pages and Beatles

Master PagesMaster Pages2

For the first master page, we created a text box and made a new paragraph style.  In the style, we did a left tab, center tab, right tab, and decimal.  We typed in Halloween words and tabbed over, showing that they would orient in the way we told them to.  For the second master page, we did a leader of a dot.  We typed in breakfast foods and tabbed over and did a price.  The dots went in between like on a menu.  For the third master page, we did a table of endangered bears.  We adjusted the tabs as told.  The paragraph rule underneath we turned on and changed to red.  I then changed the header to have a background of yellow.

For the Beatles cover, I created a table that had a header, footer, four rows, and three columns.  We changed the rows to be 2 inches tall or 0.5 inches tall.  Then, we entered in the pictures and the album names.  For the pictures, they were already the right size, and for the text we made it so that it would be centered in the middle of the boxes.

Snowboarder

Snowboarder

For this, we learned the basics of InDesign.  I added lines at the halfway mark of 8.5 inches and then at 8.25 and 8.75 on either side of the middle line.  I made black lines all around the pages to show closure.  I placed the photo of the snowboarder in twice, cropping one so that the snowboarder looked like he was coming out of the photo at the reader.  I added the next two snowboarders and shifted them at an angle.  I added a drop shadow to both images.  I created character styles and paragraph styles so that the fonts I used would stay the same throughout the publication.  I copied and pasted in the text from TCU online and adjusted it to fit perfectly with columns.  I clicked on the photo of the snowboarder coming down and went to window, text wrap 0.125 away from the photo so the text wouldn’t be too close to the image.  I then created a rectangle and fixed two of the corners in corner options to be rounded.  I filled the rectangle with a gradient.  I copied and pasted it and made it a little shorter on the other side.  I added the text from the document onto both rectangles.  I then placed the logo into the image.  I then did header and footer text to match the article we were copying.

Green slideshow

green-slideshow

For this slideshow, we used the frame animation section of Photoshop.  We added frames for each of the green pictures, and we added text.  Each layer had a different image, so on each frame we clicked we hid or unhid certain layers to make that appear as the screen during that frame.  I changed all of my slides to show for 1 second, and I had it replay 3 times.

Team Edward or Jacob

Team Edward or Jacob copy

For this, we used filter, Liquify.  It’s pretty creepy the capabilities of Photoshop with this tool!  It knew what each face was, so we worked on each face one-by-one, changing the eyes shape, length, and height.  We changed the nose length and width.  We changed the smile and face shape as well.  I used the twirl tool on Edward’s hair.  I also used the pucker and bloat tool.  Creepy but cool!

Puppet warp dude

FIle number: 1021213

We made the jumper layer a smart image and did command J twice, creating 3 of the jumper.  I went to edit, puppet warp.  Using the pins, I put them on his hands, elbows, knees, feet, and head.  I then moved the pins around wherever I wanted to.  I did this three times, changing his body motion each time.

Desert Sheep

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

For this, we messed with the healing content aware tool.  I selected around the sheep and then made it go out further about 1/8 of an inch.  I then changed the pixels by 5.  I moved the sheep at this point to another place in the picture and clicked enter.  Then the tool did its magic!
