Gaussian Blur Dak

Screen Shot 2018-10-01 at 9.44.31 AM.png

In this image of Dak, we did the same thing as mentioned in the Grayscale blog post.  The only difference is that instead of doing Grayscale in the background, we used the effect of Gaussian Blur to make the focus go onto Dak.

Greyscale Dak

With this picture of Dak, we did two layers of him.  The first layer we changed into Grayscale and kept in the background.  The top layer we used the masking tool to cut out only Dak and we kept him in color.

Photoshop Blog Post 1

fish

What is it?

This ad is for a sushi company called Yo Sushi.  It is to show how fresh their sushi is, so they have put the sushi roll inside of the fish cut in half.  It is very effective, and really caught my eye when I saw this ad.

What program?

I think the program used to create this was Photoshop.  I think they used the file place embedded and did a mask of the sushi when they put the image on top of the cut fish.  It’s a pretty simple design, but it really does exactly what it is supposed to do.  Then on the fish, they put a drop shadow.

Design elements?

I can see a contrast in the texture of the fish’s scales and the sushi itself.  The skin is so shiny, while the rice and fish has more of a less smooth texture.  It is also pretty well-balanced.

Garden

For this piece, there were a lot of different pieces, which made it fun!  First we started with the growing carrots.  I used the ellipse tool to create a long oval, which I then used the eyedropper tool to change to a nice orange color.  Then I took the direct selection tool and selected the left and right anchor points, holding down the shift key.  I then dragged these points up, creating more of a carrot shape.  Then, I used the pencil tool with a light red color, and I drew lines on the image to add some dimension.  Then, I made the pencil tool a little big thicker and made it a green color.  With this, I drew the leaves of the carrot coming out the top.  Now I moved onto the long pot.  I took the rectangle tool and made a long rectangle, horizontal.  I then went to effect, warp, bulge and changed the bend to 17% and the vertical to -7%.  I then selected my whole carrot and grouped it.  Then I copied and pasted the carrot so there are now five carrots.  I used the horizontal center align to make sure they were evenly spread out, then I adjusted them in my pot to make them look cute!

Next, I made a tree.  I made a green circle with the ellipse tool, using the eyedropper tool to use the same color green as the leaves of the carrots.  On top of that circle, I drew another one with the ellipse tool, a little smaller than the first, and I made it a lighter shade of green.  Now to do the stem, I made a very skinny and long rectangle using the rectangle tool and set its color to a very dark green.  Next, for the pot, I made a rectangle and changed the color to brown.  Leaving it selected, I went to effect, warp, bulge and changed the bend to 25% and the vertical to -25%.  I then grouped all of the parts together.  I then made a flower, using the polygon tool.  I made a hexagon, by clicking the up arrow until there were six sides, then I went to effect, distort and transform, pucker and bloat and moved the slider to 50%.  This created a flower shape, which I then changed to a light cream/ivory color.  In the center, I placed a yellow circle which I made with the ellipse tool and holding down the shift key to make a perfect circle.  I grouped the flower parts, and copy and pasted until there were eight flowers.  I then placed them onto the tree and grouped the whole thing together.

Next was the fence.  I picked the rectangle tool and drew a long vertical rectangle.  I then took the add anchor point tool under the pen tool and added an anchor point in the middle of the top of the rectangle.  I picked the direct select tool and move this anchor point up until I had a nice fence board look.  I changed the color of the fence to the pot’s color in the carrots piece using the eyedropper tool.  Next, I copy and pasted until there were three of these planks.  I selected all three and made sure they were evenly spaced by using the horizontal align center tool.  Then, I made another rectangle to go horizontally across all three planks.  I made this plank a little darker of a blue.  I then grouped this fence together.  To create the ladybug on top, I drew an oval with the ellipse tool and filled it with a bright red.   I copied and pasted this oval and changed the fill color to black.  I then dragged this shape in until it was extremely thin.  To make sure it was correctly in place, I used the horizontal align center and vertical align center buttons.  Then, I created a black circle for the head and sent it to the back.  Then,

Salad Man

salad man

For this piece, we started to explore Photoshop.  We started with the blueberries, and we used the circle select tool.  We then copied and it made its own layer automatically, which we would duplicate and then move onto the head of the salad man.  We then moved onto all of the other things.  We used the circle for the blueberries and carrots, polygonal lasso for the bowtie, lasso for the squash nose, magic wand for the grapefruit and eyebrows, and finally the magnetic lasso for the kiwi and mushroom hat!  Such a fun way to start off the Photoshop section.

Pepper

pepper

For this project, we learned about the gradient mesh tool.  We started by using the eyedropper tool to get the main colors of the pepper.  After that, I used the pen tool to trace all of the different sections of the pepper.  Each section got its own layer.  I then copy and pasted this down underneath just in case I needed these shapes again.  I then picked the most common color in each section and made that section filled with that color.  I took off the stroke as well.  I then took the mesh tool and started to add the lights and darks on each section.  I did this section by section until I liked the way the mesh looked and I thought the pepper looked 3D.  When I had finished the sections, I imported the image of the stem that was already done for me and placed it where it needed to go.  I was not very happy with the overall outcome of my pepper, and I wish I had started over and tried it again.
